We decided to rent a house at the beach...just in time for the coldest weather of the year. This morning we woke up to a brisk 28 degree morning!!

Thanksgiving is gulf coast style this year!
Today, it's a local red snapper, and corn, crab & and shrimp chowder kind of thanksgiving! Traditional...no...yummy...I hope so :-)

capitol park
We were out "adventuring" on Veteran's Day and decided to check out Capitol Park. Tuscaloosa used to be the state capitol of AL (back in the 1800s) before it was moved to Montgomery. The capitol building burned down in 1923, and the remains are now part of a park. Lots of fun places to climb and jump - especially for super hero kids!
I have a running list of places that we need to check out while we live
in AL, and this was one of them. Since we're kicking around the idea of
leaving Dixie behind in the next few years (yes, it's true!), we need to start checking off those other
places! So...watch for some fun adventures in the future, including
Nashville, Memphis, Chattanooga, the Rosa Parks bus in Montgomery, Cathedral Cave, Dauphin Island, and more! And yes..I really do have list :-)
train bridge
There's an old train bridge here in town, and on Veteran's Day we decided to go adventuring and check it out. Turns out...someone hung a tire swing from the bridge, which was kind of fun!
We also waited and hoped that a train would go by..but no luck!
And....we wandered along some trails...and Gage made a beeline for the mud puddles (of course), and found a stick that he proceeded to smash against the bridge because well, he's a boy!

Gage likes to play "noodle swords" with me. We pretend to sword fight and he falls to the ground and pretends to die. It was extra cute when he dressed up as Thor :-)

Crazy hair
Savannah reminded me this morning that today is crazy hair day at school. So, we kicked it into high gear to get ourselves ready with enough extra time to put a bunch if crazy pony tails, ribbons, flowers and pink hairspray in her hair before it was time to go. And...she won craziest hair in her class!!

Crazy men
Adam's high school friend Mike and his wife Kristen came to visit for the weekend and go to the LSU - AL football game. Mine, as you can see doesn't spend much time in the gym ;-). Shortly after walking in the door he wowed the kids by tearing a few phone books in half!
And not to be shown up...Adam managed to tear one in half too!
We topped off their visit with a day of tailgating and the football game.
Fun run
Savannah's school fundraiser is a fun run - where she collects pledges for each lap she runs. Here they are getting ready..

And she ended up running more than the 35 lap max...
I think we will end up raising about $10k that the pto is using to buy computers for the classrooms.

Creepy crawlies
Savannah found this fuzzy caterpillar the other day and was tickled that he "bobbed his head up and down when we walked" - she even brought him into the house to show me.
Western day
It was western day at both kids' schools this Friday. We had a good looking cowboy & cowgirl!
And he got to hang out with some horses once he got to school.
He said all the kids were jealous because he had a RED cowboy hat :-)

Gage looked so cute walking into school with his "grub bag" so his class could have a cowboy picnic lunch that day.

Last month, Gage's teacher (mrs. becky) said the kids could all come to her house to trick or treat if they wanted to. Well, on Halloween, she pulled me aside and said gage was very upset that she had not given Gage a map to her house yet, and it was already Halloween. Apparently, he was the only one who remembered she had said that! So, she gave us her address and we stopped by.
Pumpkins
We invited out Greek friend over to learn the fine art of pumpkin carving this year - they don't have Halloween in Greece, so this is all new to them. Savannah decided pumpkin guts felt yucky this year, so she made a glove out of a ziploc bag!
